Compendium Living recently donated £100 worth of National Book Tokens to Lovers Lane Primary and Nursery School in Newark.  The donation was to celebrate World Book Day (Thursday 2nd March) and World Storytelling Day (Monday 20th March).

We are currently working with Newark & Sherwood District Council on plans to regenerate the Yorke Drive estate.  Lovers Lane Primary School is close to the Yorke Drive estate and one of the main primary schools serving local families.  We hope that the tokens will allow the school to choose more books to add to their library, helping to improve their book collection and encouraging the children’s love of reading.

Wendy Lister, Project Manager at Compendium Living, visited the school on World Book Day to hand over the tokens.  She spoke to children at their afternoon assembly about her own love of reading and talked about her favourite books.

Wendy Lister said: “We are delighted to have helped Lovers Lane Primary and Nursery School increase their collection of books.

“It’s crucial to encourage all children to read and create opportunities for them to fall in love with reading.  This is why giving to local schools on World Book Day and World Storytelling Day is so important to us.

“Lovers Lane Primary and Nursery School is a lovely school, and we look forward to working with them again in the future as we progress the Yorke Drive estate and continue to build a relationship with the local community.”

World Book Day is an annual event which promotes reading for pleasure.  It offers every child and young person the opportunity to own a book of their own. To find out more, visit https://www.worldbookday.com/.

World Storytelling Day is a global celebration of storytelling, celebrated every year on 20th March. The theme for 2023 is ‘Together We Can’, encouraging people to tell and listen to stories about inspiring change.
