MainSt and pond 2014 webWe are celebrating the successful completion of our award-winning regeneration scheme at Weston Heights, Stoke-on-Trent.

Over 10 years in the making, this was our first project, started just after Compendium Living was established in 2005.  It has revitalised a once-failing ex-mining estate, into a desirable mixed-tenure community, with new households living alongside original estate residents.

Before regeneration

Originally built in 1954 by the National Coal Board (NCB) for local miners, Coalville (its original name) was sold off by the NCB in the early 1980’s.  Over time a combination of defective construction, high numbers of poorly managed private tenancies and the collapse of the mining industry led the estate into decine. It became a local eyesore and gained a poor reputation across the city.  You can read more about the estate’s story here.

Renamed Weston Heights to symbolise a new start, the estate has now been radically remodelled to complement surrounding neighbourhoods.  Our vision was to make it a place where its founding community and new families want to live. We started building work in January 2007 and the final new homes are now complete.

We have invited the community to join us to celebrate the success of this flagship scheme on Sunday 11th September.  They will join colleagues from our partners, and local VIPs, to mark the successful completion of Weston Heights.
